The Importance of Creativity

Let's commence this Thought-of-The-Week entry with a quote from this week's Newsweek http://www.newsweek.com/2010/07/10/the-creativity-crisis.html .

"The correlation to lifetime creative accomplishment was more than three times stronger for childhood creativity than childhood IQ".

Too many times we over-value and over-place the importance of Intelligence. In a blog post dated 8 July 2010 entitled The Type of Thinking which facilitates Wisdom, I talked about Wisdom = Intelligence + Good Judgement + Eloquence, and why we need to nurture and build better teams, organizations, societies and countries with Wiser Leaders.

In my blog post dated 17 July 2010 entitled Passions & The Importance of Passion, I talked about the need for Leaders who are not only Wise, but infused with Passion for their causes, their interests, their teams, their organizations, their society & country. This is because Passion focuses strongly and productively a person's Time, Energies, Emotions, Faculties, Learnings & Perspectives into an unbeatable Whole which is greater than the Individual Sum of its Parts.

Today, let's add one more dimension --- Creativity & Innovation. Leaders who are Wise, infused with Passion, and who are Creative & Innovative, now that's a real "killer" combination!

"Creativity is the production of something original and useful, where one feels that there is never one right answer. To be creative requires divergent thinking and then convergent thinking. Creativity usually means an unusual visual perspective. It is an ability to synthesize diverse elements into meaningful products."

The above statements are from the same Newsweek article which I web-link above. Invest some Time today reading this very good Newsweek article entitled The Creativity Crisis. Then reflect on your personal leadership and that of the team, organization, society and country which you are a part of.

How can you get better on Creativity & Innovation? Have you given Creativity & Innovation due recognition, that they are important, not just for your career, but for your life; and not just for your career accomplishments, but for the accomplishments major and minor in your life?
