Time as a Best Friend & a Trusted Ally

Time belongs to those who truly value it. This is the motto I live by.

When I speak with many of my successful clients & friends and ask them how they feel about Time, I can see this is the motto they live by too, irregardless whether they consciously articulate it the way I do. It really is true --- Time belongs to those who truly value it.

In the past 4 weeks, I've done a lot in the 4 x 7 = 28 days = 28 x 24 = 672 hours.

My family and I visited our good friends Anna & Antonio in Italy, and we invested quality time together --- bonding as a family, enjoying each other's company, getting to know each other better; sight-seeing and enjoying Italy --- the beautiful cities of Milan, Verona, Mantova, Florence & Venice, and the food, wine, sights, sound, culture, literature & art that these great cities have to offer.

I also gave 2 speeches (one in Singapore, the other in Shanghai) to 300 people; conducted 2 leadership development workshops for 30 leaders (one public sector group and one private sector group), visited my clients, wrote a couple of proposals, and closed a couple of sales.

I also had the happy opportunity of keeping to my running schedule (50 km a week), my reading schedule, and my sleeping schedule (yes, at least 7 hours sleep per night is very important). In other words, the past 4 weeks have been very good weeks --- time well spent, time well invested.

All of us can go through life with Time as our Friend or with Time as our Enemy. The choice is ours to make. And the implication for our choice is stark.

With Time as Friend, if we are to read 1 book per year, we'll be able to read 40 books in our working lives (assuming we work from 22 to 62). Imagine if we are to read 5 books a year, or 10... With Time as Friend, if we are to help 10 persons per year, we will have helped 400 people in our working lives. Imagine if we are to help 50 persons a year, or 100... You get the math.

In life, I regard Time as a Best Friend & a Trusted Ally; and I choose to live my life in a meaningful, highly engaged fashion --- Engaged Work, Engaged Leisure, Engaged Living & Engaged Citizenry.

All of us have this choice --- how will you make yours? Perhaps it's time to make a fundamental change on the way you view & use Time?
