Becoming My Own Boss
Time flies. 1st May (Labour Day) marks the 110th day of Rested Edge Advisory, the business advisory with a twist, set up with a whole lot of love & idealism on 12 January 2010!
I set up Rested Edge to allow me to break out of my “comfort zone” of corporate life & my previous successes, to once again re-align & re-invent myself, and in so doing, to move one step closer to tighter congruence between what I believe in & am committed to, what I want to achieve for myself, my community, my fellow countrymen & my city/country, how best I believe my family & I can contribute, and how I envision us living meaningful, positive, purposeful, happy, high-impact lives.
Although a few close mentors, friends & clients were not at all surprised by my move, most however were, and some were positively stunned & “a bit shell-shocked” given the audacity of the move as I guess it’s still highly unstable economic times. I’m glad to say however that all are supportive and are fully behind me, Rested Edge Advisory & what we stand for.
I’m very happy to say that Rested Edge Advisory is off to a very good start. The company has secured 4 clients of which work has begun, and there are 3 verbal confirmations where contracts are currently being drafted & signed. The www.RestedEdge.com.sg website is also up & running; and my email address of Peter_Ong@RestedEdge.com.sg This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it is up and ready-to-go.
So as my own boss, I’m calling my own vacation break!
I’ll be visiting Italy with Lesley and my boys Josh & Jon come 30 May to 10 June 2010. Hopefully the volcano in Iceland won’t erupt again at that time, and flights will be aplenty, on-time, safe & smooth. We’ll be visiting the wonderful cities of Verona, Venice & Florence and enjoying the sights, sounds, delights, culture, history & beauty which those wonderful cities have to offer. We’ll also be in the company of our good friends Anna & Antonio.
After accelerating hard to create this new company, get it going, firm up what it stands for, inform friends & clients, and secure an emerging book of business of wonderful clients with meaningful work, I guess it’s time to “throttle down” slightly and take a vacation with my loved ones.
Ironically throttling down in work activities, meetings, phone calls & emails many times mean throttling up in terms of thinking, ideas & envisioning the future by “seeing beyond corners, twice”. We all need this balance between throttling up & throttling down to function at our very best. With that belief, my vacation in Italy can only be all good. It will not only recharge & rejuvenate me, but will provide me much needed rest & time to think/write, and further serve to sharpen my edge.
